Steve’s path to chiropractic began in the lecture halls of King’s College London, where he earned a First-Class Honours degree in Immunology, followed by an MPhil in Molecular Biology at Queen’s College, Cambridge. But soon after, life took an unexpected turn. A serious back injury left him in constant pain for nearly two years. He tried physiotherapy, osteopathy, acupuncture, massage, and even spinal steroid injections — but nothing worked.
Surgery seemed inevitable… until a chiropractor changed everything. In a matter of weeks, he was back on his feet. Inspired, Steve enrolled in the University of Surrey’s postgraduate MSc Chiropractic programme, graduating in 2001 determined to help others as he had been helped.
Jo’s journey started in nursing. After earning her nursing degree at the University of Surrey, she underwent ACL reconstruction surgeries on both knees following sports injuries from years of competitive netball.
The pain lingered. Her knees felt fragile, and she feared they’d “give way” again. Then, like Steve, she found chiropractic — and everything changed. Not only could she return to netball, she also found a new calling. Already studying at Surrey, Jo began her chiropractic training, and it was there that our paths crossed.
We both began our professional careers as associates with Terry Chimes in Woodford, learning valuable lessons in patient care and clinical excellence. Soon after, we opened our own practice — just one small room in a local gym. Word spread quickly. Within a few years, we expanded into our own independent clinic, and eventually into a 14-room centre in Brentwood, Essex, serving hundreds of people each week.

In 2011, we launched Blue Cow Global, our chiropractic consulting company, to share our methods for patient care and practice growth. Our systems have since been adopted by practitioners across the world — from the UK and USA to Australia, Canada, and South Africa.
But our passion for clinical innovation kept growing. Steve’s research into psychoneurophysiology — the science of how mind, body, and nervous system interact — revealed powerful connections between emotional health, neurological function, and physical healing. Out of that research, The Elaris System was born.
Today, we’ve returned to our roots, bringing everything we’ve learned — from science and clinical experience to global teaching and system design — back to the heart of patient care.
At Elaris, every patient’s journey is personal.
And for us, it always will be.
